Dr. Chunling Lu

Founding Director of the Program in Global Health Economics and Social Change, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Lu is the founding director of the Program in Global Health Economics and Social Change at Harvard Medical School. As an assistant professor of global health and social medicine, her research focuses on measuring and analyzing global health finance and its effectiveness on improving population health outcomes at multiple levels.

Dr. Lu has conducted research across the world, and published in high-impact journals such as The Lancet and The PLoS Medicine. She has been involved in a number of scientific committees, and acting as an advisor for the World Health Organization’s workshop on monitoring health service utilization and financial protection. Currently, Dr. Lu leads a consultation team organized by the WHO on sustainability of public health programs in Mongolia.

Dr. Lu studied international relations (BA) and political science (MA) at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and sociology (MA) and applied statistics (MS) at Syracuse University, where she also received her PhD in economics. She received postdoctoral training on health care policy analysis at the Harvard Medical School’s Department of Health Care Policy, and joined the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2008.
